Where to Stay in Hell's Kitchen
Hell's Kitchen runs from 34th Street north to 59th Street, between Eighth Avenue and the Hudson River. It is the part of Manhattan that business travellers keep rediscovering: close enough to Midtown to walk to a meeting, far enough west to sleep. Ink 48 Hotel sits at 653 Eleventh Avenue, on the corner of West 48th Street, on the neighbourhood's western edge.
A neighbourhood that works on foot
Most of what brings people to Hell's Kitchen is inside a fifteen-minute walk of the front door.
- Javits Center. The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is a short walk north along Eleventh Avenue. For anyone attending a show, this is the reason to stay here rather than in Midtown proper.
- Hudson Yards. Less than a mile away, with shopping, dining and The Shed.
- Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Walkable with luggage if you are boarding or disembarking.
- The Glasshouse. A short walk for events and meetings.
- Times Square and the Theater District. Roughly fifteen minutes on foot, closer by cab.
- Port Authority Bus Terminal. At 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue, walkable in about ten minutes.
Restaurant Row on West 46th Street, the coffee shops along Ninth and Tenth Avenues, and the rooftop bars that made this neighbourhood's reputation are all within a few blocks.
Getting here and getting onward
Ink 48 is convenient to all three New York airports: John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty. Penn Station, Moynihan Train Hall and Grand Central are a short cab ride east, which puts Amtrak, NJ Transit and the Long Island Rail Road within easy reach. Valet parking is available if you are driving in.
Rooms built for longer stays
The hotel has 222 loft-like guestrooms and suites, including a Penthouse Suite. Rooms are larger than the Midtown norm, which is the practical difference on a three-night business trip: somewhere to work, somewhere to unpack, and quiet at the end of the day. See rooms and suites.
What the amenity fee covers
A $40 plus tax nightly amenity fee per room includes standard Wi-Fi for up to three devices, access to the 24/7 fitness centre, unlimited local and long distance calls, and a 10% discount at three neighbourhood spots when you show your room key: Jolly Goat Coffee Bar, Fresh From Hell and Bar Dough. Pets up to 50 pounds are welcome, and laundry service is available. Full details are on the amenities page.
Eating and drinking in the building
- Hudson VU Rooftop. The hotel's rooftop bar, with views across the Hudson and the Manhattan skyline. One of the reasons guests stay here rather than in a conference hotel.
- Hudson Local. Ground-floor restaurant from Michelin-trained chef Carlos Letonas, with a wine list curated by sommelier Elia Chuaqui. Breakfast is served 7 to 11am daily, lunch 12 to 3pm.

Who Ink 48 suits
Javits Center attendees. Walking distance to the convention floor, no cab required at 7am. Business travellers with Midtown meetings. Close enough to walk or take a short cab, and quieter than staying on top of Times Square. Cruise passengers. The terminal is walkable, and the hotel handles luggage. Theatregoers who want to sleep. Fifteen minutes from the theatres, well outside the noise.
If your trip is mostly Fifth Avenue and Midtown East, the location is a compromise. If it is the West Side, Javits or the Hudson waterfront, it is hard to beat. For meeting space on site, see meetings and events.
